A note from Austin

Austin Yoakum graduated his undergraduate schooling from Iowa State University with bachelors of science degrees in Psychology and Child, Adult, and Family Services. Austin then graduated from Capella University with his Master's in Mental Health Counseling. Austin is a National Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors. His passion is marital and individual counseling. Austin believes the goal of counseling is to help individuals and marriages persevere through challenging times to find their full potential. His therapeutic approach promotes an environment of acceptance and compassion. He believes that a positive therapeutic relationship between a therapist and client is essential to the growth process and the success of therapy. He will work to create a collaborative, warm and comfortable environment in which clients can feel free to explore. Austin incorporates a client-centered approach to promote a non-judgment space, self-acceptance, and behavior change in the areas of mindfulness, emotion regulation, relational effectiveness, and distress tolerance. His clinical interests include couple counseling, trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, and difficult adjustments. During his time away from counseling, he stays busy with his wife and family
